FAQs

Why are there two fees?

The fee paid online is to the Cannonball Swimming Academy for the cost of instruction. The fee paid upon entry at Corbin Wellness Center before each class or lesson is the hosting fee that allows for the use of the facility. Each student must pay this fee including active members of Corbin Wellness.

What do I need to bring?

For Learn-to-Swim Lessons, bring a swimsuit, towel, goggles, swim cap (if desired), and a water bottle.

For Technique Classes, bring a swimsuit, towel, goggles, swim cap (if desired), fins, a kickboard, and a water bottle.

For Baby & Best Friends classes, bring a thermal swimsuit for the child and a towel.

What do I do when I enter the Center?

Check in at the front desk, sign the facility’s waiver, and pay the hosting fee. The staff will direct you to the pool area where your instructor will be waiting on deck, ready to greet you!

How do I pass the time while my child is in their lesson or class?

Parents are welcome to watch the lesson and encouraged to stay if the child is under 5 years old. If you would like to take this time and invest in your own health, please consider a membership to Corbin Wellness and enjoy the gym or a class while your child enjoys theirs!

I’m concerned about the process and new to the activity. How can I be sure of this?

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask! Questions about the instructor's background, certifications, level of experience, and personal process for teaching your child are welcomed and encouraged! Transparency increases trust and trust increases the likelihood of success!

My child is terrified of water! How will this fear be addressed?

Patiently. We understand and will honor their very real emotions and past experiences with water. Their instructor will reintroduce them at an appropriate pace, LISTEN to their cues both verbal and non-verbal, teach them the skills necessary to be confident in the water, and instruct students what to do if they feel tired or need a break while swimming. With this new foundation, fear will be replaced with a love of the water!

Can adults take lessons?

Absolutely! It is never too late to gain a new skill or improve your technique!

If my child passes their safety test before the lesson series ends, what happens?

The remaining lessons will be used to teach the proper techniques for swimming freestyle and backstroke. Not only will they be safe in the water, but strong swimmers!

My child doesn’t tolerate temperature well. What can I do?

We suggest a thermal suit made of neoprene that is three to four millimeters in thickness. However, when taking the safety test, students will wear a regular swimsuit. Thermal suits can add buoyancy, so to ensure that your child is adequately prepared for the next phase in their swimming journey, we require students to wear a regular swimsuit for the safety test. We want to make sure the student can pass on their own and showcase their learned skill.
